Ranch Dip Recipe + My Fav Things to Dip

Ranch Dip - Simply Nourished Wellness

Since March 23rd is National Chip & Dip day, I wanted to share one of my favorite and well loved dip recipes. I also wanted to share some of my favorite products for dipping. I really enjoy most kinds of dip… sour cream & onion, french onion, ranch, salsa, cheese, guacamole, artichoke, crab…. I love them! You’ll find my go-to ranch dip recipe below, but first, here are a few of my favorite things to dip lately.

Chips are great, but many are made with vegetable oils like corn or canola. These oils are not great for high heat use as they oxidize when heated. These oxidized oils are highly inflammatory and can create free radical damage in your body. Additionally, they are heavily processed “food”. Better options for frying chips are oils like palm, avocado, or coconut oil. These are what I look for when chip shopping.

Plantain Chips

First up are plantain chips! Plantains are a banana like fruit, but they tend to be starchier and need to be cooked to be eaten. I love them fried up along side my eggs & bacon, or fried and added to a pork taco. But I also love using them as a replacement for tortilla chips in taco salads and dipping them in salsa and guac. These Alcapulco Lime ones are a current fav of mine!

Tortilla Chips

If you are avoiding corn/grains, my favorite grain free tortilla chip is from Siete. Siete also makes delicious tortillas as well. But their chips are one of my favorites! I have the regular pictured below, but they have other flavors as well. When tortilla chip shopping, I also look for organic and/or non-GMO for the corn tortilla products I use, like these from Xochitl.

Potato Chips

I love potato chips and a good sour cream & onion dip. So good! Here are a couple great options, made with good oil choices like avocado or coconut oil.

Veggies!

Of course, veggies always make a delicious dipping food! Carrots, peppers, cucumber, celery, cherry tomatoes, jicama, green beans, snap peas, broccoli, cauliflower, etc! I love keeping a container of cut up veggies in my fridge along with some of my ranch dip. It is a great snack and a perfect way to get more veggies in.

So now to the ranch dip. What I love most about this recipe is how super easy it is to whip up! You prep the dry ingredients ahead of time and keep them in a jar in your pantry. Then when you need dip, you mix it into some sour cream or mayo…done! You can also water it down more with milk to use as a salad dressing.

This delicious dip mix can be made ahead and be ready to use in a moment’s notice!  Mix it up with sour cream, mayo, or plain yogurt (or a mix of them) for a fast dip, or thin it down with milk for a salad dressing.
Course Appetizer

Ingredients

  • 3 T dried parsley
  • 1.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 5 T minced, dried onions
  • 2 tsp sea salt

For Dip

  • 1 cup full fat sour cream (or a 1/2 & 1/2 mix with sour cream and mayo or plain greek yogurt)
  • milk to thin down as desired

Instructions

  • Mix the parsley, garlic powder, dried onions, and sea salt together and place in a sealed container to store until needed.

To Make Dip:

  • Mix 1 Tablespoon of the dip mix into 1 cup of sour cream.  You can also do some mayo, some sour cream (or plain greek yogurt).  This will give the dip a slightly different flavor.  Experiment and see what you like best!

Notes

I like to add a tablespoon of milk to my dip when I make it. As the dip sits, it will thicken due to the dehydrated onions absorbing some of the liquid. If you make the dip ahead of time, be sure to check the consistency and then down as desired.
